1. What are the trading options?
a. Equity trading
2. How much time do I need?
a. Long term investment
In order to maintain a long term trading portfolio you need about 1-2 hours per week.
3. What kind of return can I expect?
Keys to Success:
Medium term trading Typically, end of day trading. It could supplement your income with anything between 5% – 100% per annum or more. This is aimed at meeting your medium term needs, like financing renovations, a holiday or varsity fees.
Intraday trading This is a way to replace your income and depending on your capital balance could supply you with anything between R 5000 and R 100 000 per month or more.
Medium to long term It is not advised to trade these instruments with less than R 20 000 to R 100 000.
Short term Some international brokers allow you to trade with as little as $50. However, it is also advisable to start a portfolio with at least $2000 or R 15 000 to R 25 000.
4. How much capital do I need?
From as little as $100!
5. What is the risk?
Risk is uniquely determined for each individual trader. Educational institutions like Edu Invest advises clients not to risk more than 1% of their portfolio balance at any given time. However should the trader not have the discipline to maintain these levels, all capital can be lost. It is therefore vital and strongly recommended to join a “coaching program”. Remember, your “safe” investment (E.g.call account, fixed deposit, bonds, etc.) will be losing money every year by the amount it underperforms real inflation. This is a factor people often don’t consider, and thereby fear taking on even a little more risk.
6. Where do I start?
You need to be on top of the three aspects in the trading arena, but it all starts with making a decision to take charge NOW of your financial and investment situation!

What is going short?
The market can be traded on the downtrend. It can be compared to borrowing something to sell now at a higher price and replace when the price have come down.
